For Laura!

Challenge 297, the last one of 2016. Laura will take a well deserved break until January 9th.
I wish her and her family lovely Christmas days and for 2017 love, light and health. And thanks Laura for another year of great challenges!!

To show my appreciation for Laura, I used Diva Dance for my tile, being the 'gift of Zentangle' to her!

I also like to wish my fellow tanglers a peaceful Christmas and all you need in your life in 2017. Let's keep in touch and do a lot of tangling in the next year.

Last night I did my first 3Z:

Moowa and hand-lettering

And again (already so soon) it is the first Monday of the month and that means UMT (use my tangle) day in the language of the Diva challenge.
It is Moowa by Anya Ipsen and this tangle looks a lot like Mooka, just three of them :-)

Since Mooka (drawn this way) is not really my friend, this Moowa isn't either; it's a bit of a stuggle.
And after Moowa, what to do with the rest of the tile???? But then it was suddenly finished and I think it's quite pretty.

Last week I went to a workshop 'hand-lettering' and I liked that!! A few days later it was the birthday of Kees, so I did my first attempt on a card for him:

Not too bad, isn't it?

Again: Reticula and Fragments

As I said last week, I bought the book (in Dutch) and I have to say, I like it!
When I looked at it at first, I thought that it was really only for beginners, but I was wrong. Even not being a beginner (my zentangle adventure started in 2011) it's is a great book to refresh and learn new things.

As expected, this week more Reticula and Fragments :-)

I took a beige tile and tangled with a black and a white pen and later I shaded with a white pencil.

Warme groet,

Some frustration

The new challenge was quite frustrating for me at first. My English is not too bad I think, but I didn't really understand what we had to do.
I had some contact with a friend here in the Netherlands, asked my husband (who lived in UK for more then 20 years) for help, but it was not enough to know what to do.

Then there was Ria Matteussen that helped me out, by telling that the book is in Dutch too and I ordered it right away (of course). I looked at some entries (something I normally don't) and the one of Diana Scheur, with her explanation in Dutch, helped me a lot. Thanks Ria and Diana!!!!

So I started my tile last night and OMG, I like this!!!!
Today my new book will arrive and I look forward to it.

Having a good time

I was sooooo pleased to see what Laura has planned for us this week after the, for me, impossible tangle of last week.
Keeko is a tangle I use from time to time and one that hardly takes any concentration, just counting one, two, three, four, one, two, and so on. Do you count all the time too?

During the day I had been thinking about a string that I should use and I decided to do something rectangular. I took a pre colored tile from my stock ans started with Keeko on two sides. The rest just followed.

I enjoyed making this one, thanks Laura!!!

This is what I made for Square One last week using Rainking:

Impossible

After an intense and tiresome day last Monday (a training, very worth while, about values and norms as subject), I came home and was really looking forward to do the challenge. I looked at it and liked the new tangle Eaxy. Liked it a lot.
So I started and .... I just couldn't do it. Tried several times, got irritated and started my tile. I just couldn't do it!!!
I may try again, but not soon.

I decided to skip this week's challenge, but today decided different. Not being childish, just show you what I did in my frustration. The result speaks for itself!

Happy Halloween

Halloween, not very much about that in the Netherlands, but a bit more every year I think.
Just some stuff in the shops, but not children going from house to house to ask for candy.

I liked the idea of using a black zendala tile, like Laura did and remembered that I had some that I won some time ago by giving a comment on Rick and Maria's blog.
It has been a long time ago that I tangled on black and I liked doing that ... a lot.

A new friend?

Quite a while ago, making a duo-tangle and that's what Laura brings us in Challenge 290 this week.
NZeppel vs Flux it is!

Nzeppel has never been a friend of mine, but at least I can draw it now without to many mistakes (OK, I hear what you say about mistakes in Zentangle).
I think my Nzeppel is a bit too small as background for Flux and makes the tile too full, but it is what it is. Not too bad I think :-)

Last week I did a tile for a challenge of Arja de Lange, a Dutch CZT. This is the result:

I'm back

Last week was the first time since I started doing the challenges, I think since number 65, that I didn’t join.
I did plan to do it on Monday evening, but then the new challenge came on Tuesday and my plans changed. That night and also Thursday and Saturday I had to attend some training and on Friday I went to Eindhoven (a city in the south of the Netherlands) to tangle with a group of women; they do that every six months and this was my first time.
In the evenings I was quite tired and just sat in my chair watching a bit of television.

Well, anyway, I'm back now and joining the new challenge Laura gave us.

I took a tile I kept from last year, already colored In real life the color is much darker and more goldish) and with the shape of a leaf on it.
I used a brown pen and some green pastel pencil for shading.

I think it has a good autumn feeling.

A dreamcatcher

As always at the beginning of a new moth (I can't believe it is already autumn) the challenge brings us an UMT; this time Dreamcatcher by Daniel Lamothe. A great tangle, easy to draw and lovely to see.

I took a tile of my stack pre colored ones and started with Dreamcatcher (of course :-). After that I just did what came to mind.
This Dreamcatcher is a tangle I will probably use more often. Thanks Daniel!!!

Straight to it!?

'Straight to it' is the challenge for this week. I had to read Laura's post before I understood what she meant by that title. A tile only filled with straight lines it is.
A challenge I like, especially because I normally use curved and straight lines and doing just straight is a bit hard.
I do like the result though.

Last week I did not comment many entries (I always try to comment all), because we went to the south of the Netherlands for a few days. We went to a small town called Thorn, the white town it is called. A lovely town! Just to give you an impression:

'Relax, Bro'!!!!

'Relax, Bro' is Laura's advice (and challenge) this week.

I sat down with my headphone on, listening to shaman drums. Then started with four dots in the corners of my blank tile, connected them with a line and then a string. I realized that it was quite a while ago that I did a string (sorry, on the photo it is a bit hard to see).

And then I started with Paradox, just because that corner was asking for it. I tried to concentrate on each line and not thinking of the next tangle I would use. When a part was finished, I just looked at it and then decided what tangle came into my mind. Not the very difficult, but just my comfort ones.

I like the result of this 'basic' tile.

From hate to love!?

A monotangle: I like that, but ...... ohhhhhh it's Tripoli the tangle I never use because I can't do it.
"Skip the challenge this week", was my first thought when I read it.
But, I knew right away that I couldn't do that, that I had to try once more.
And so I started and ..... no idea why, but I was (am) able to draw Tripoli. YES, I did it!!!

I'm sure I will use it more now and I'm soooo grateful to Laura for making me step out of my comfort zone.
This tile is nothing very special, but for me: A great start of the week!!!!!

Black, very black

The first week of the month, so it's UMT week This time the tangle is Centre Square by Aleesha Sattva.

A very easy and very bold tangle. I'm not very fond of what I did, because I think ther is too much black. But, as always, I put my first attempt here, so it is what it is.
What do you think of it (is you are totally honest)? I don't know why, but the scan is quite vague.

Spilling some juice

'Spill it!'
And that's what I did for Challenge 282.

Luckily on Sunday Kees made some juice, by putting blackberries, raspberries, a pear and a banana in a blender. So I used some of it to spill on a tile and there was this nice reddish stain:

When it was dry I had a real zen time tangling it. This time I made photo's and the color is much more 'real' then by scanning.
Thanks Laura, I liked this challenge a lot.

A Banking House being a tangle

After a lot of rain and chilly days it's finally warmer in the Netherlands. Well, from 18 on Sunday to over 30 today (34 expected on Friday) it will be quite hot for our country. So, I'll do my shopping early this morning and only sit outside in the evening. The quality of the air is not too good at the moment so my lungs (and not only my lungs to be honest) will like it better inside the house :-)

ING: in the Netherlands a banking House, but this week's tangle for the Challenge.
ING, also a tangle I love using, but not always think of. So, you see that coming ..... I love this week's challenge!

Almost 'of course' I took a tile I colored before (I have quite a stack now) and started with a big diagonal ING. Some aura's around it and then it was screaming for Paradox with Zinger.
Then there appeared some shapes that have now name and that is where I did the black lines that I had better not. Pokeroot made it a bit better, but still, the black lines are too much.

Still, I like most of the tile, so I'm OK with it.

For Square one I created this tile with Viaduct:

Rio 2016

Challenge 280 and (idea came from Margareth Bremner) The Olympic Games have to be our inspiration.

Not very easy for me, because I hardly watch sport at all. But I wanted to join this challenge, so here I go.

I took a yellow tile because of the sun in Rio and tangles three medals on it. The centers are gold, silver and bronze (hard to see in this scan, but believe me, they are).
Then some Queen's Crown for winning, Golven for water games and Printemps for wheels.
I'm not really happy with it, but .... this has to do.

Auraknot and Meer, what to make of it?????

So, the first time only English for the Challenge post. Easier for me and less letters to look at for my readers :-)

This week it's a duotangle and the tangles are Auraknot and Meer; not tangles I would choose together, but that's what the challenge is about isn't it, challenging you to get out of your comfort zone.

I used a tile that I pre-colored with a gel plate; nice to do, but I'm not very good at it (yet?)!
The outer line of Auraknot is done with a Sakura Gelly Roll metallic pen, but as always the shine is not visible after scanning. I used a soft pastel pencil for shading.

Knightstar and a folding screen

This is probably the last time I do my Challenge post in two languages. It's always a lot (double to be precise) of work and I really don't think it's very needful. If the Dutch readers think differently, I may reconsider.

On to Challenge 278; an UMT by Danile Lamothe called Knightstar. A difficult one, for me anyway. I decided to draw the tangle quite big on the tile and after doing that it felt like it was finished. I did put some Cruffle in it and made some lines more black, but that's all I could think of.
Not a great one, but as always the first I made.

Running 'round in circles

Laura and her family are back home after the long road trip; in her post a lot of photo's of their adventures.

In challenge 277 she asks us to tangle 'running 'round in circles'. A much easier challenge then last week! The 'tangling while moving' challenge has frightened a lot of tanglers and there were only about 30 who joined.

I took a zendala I colored before (what a pity that the scan doesn't show the much brighter colors) and drew some circles by using round objects and had a real nice time filling them with tangles. I do like the result.

Tangling in motion!

On the way in the car Laura was tangling and there the idea was born for the challenge of this week: draw a tile while in motion.

At first I thought that this would be first one that I was going to miss, because besides of using my bicycle, I am not going anywhere this week. Asking my husband to drive around until I would have finished a tile, was a bit too much (for me, he would probably do it if I had asked).
But ..... there was Chrissie Frampton giving me a great idea: walking in the garden while tangling.
When it was not too hot anymore, that's what I did and it was much more difficult that I had thought.

But, thanks to Chrissie, I did join!!

Sorrow

While Laura and her family are still traveling to California, she is cut of of all the news. She was very shocked by the news that came to her in a mail from Suzanne Fluhr last Saturday morning in which she was told about the horrible news in USA.

Suzanne wrote a post about the nightmare in Dallas and asks us to contemplate on this terrible violence and sorrow of a lot of people. Create a tile that represents 'peace' to us.

Even living far away from all this, I'm very upset about it and I really want to (have to) do this challenge.

Because green stand for peace for me (don't know why) I took a tile with soft green and a few other shades and drew the peace symbol. I never created a tile with so little tangles on it before, bus it 'has' to be this way. Just beams bringing peace to the world.

Thanks you Suzanne for all you write about this, also on your Facebook page. I hope your words and peace idea work as an oil spot.

The colors of my country

Laura and her family are traveling to California; quite an adventure. Yet she tries to make us a challenge while traveling and this week the theme is "My country 'Tis if Thee" (to be honest, I don't understand what that means) and the reason for it is the 4th of July in USA.

'Show the colors of your country' and that's what I did. Red, white and blue are the colors of the Dutch flag and the shape made it easy for me.
So, I colored a tile first and then tangled inside the frames. In real life, the colors are much brighter, but scanning always makes the colors lighter!

A tangle remix

A few days before the big trip to California Laura still takes time to create the weekly challenge.
A remake of a tile we did before.

I chose challenge 104 from the beginning of 2013; we had to make a tile using string 003. This is what I made then:

28-01-2013

I did not look at the old one before I finished the new one. After finishing I looked and ... to be honest I like the old one a lot more. I absolutely didn't expect that :-)
This is the new one:
